School Children & School Bus Cards
Nuup Bussii A/S and Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq have a service contract that covers all schoolchildren – at the public schools and the independent schools alike.
The 2026/27 school year starts on 17 August 2026 and ends on 18 June 2027.
Grades 1–7
Pupils in grades 1–7 who live in Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq travel free without a school bus card.
Grades 8–10
From grade 8, pupils need a personal blue school bus card and scan it on the bus. The cards are made only at our office, from the class lists the schools send in August. The card is valid every day from 06:00 to 00:07.
-
Free travel ends when the pupil completes compulsory schooling, even if they have not yet turned 16. The school bus card is valid until that date.
-
Pupils moving up from grade 7 only get their school bus card once the schools have sent the class lists in August. Until then, the drivers will not turn them away.
-
Drivers no longer take school bus cards from pupils who have completed compulsory schooling. The cards are personal.
-
Former pupils who start further education and show a valid student ID can get a personal bus card with a photo and buy tickets at 50% off.

Tips for Your Bus Ride
The bus can get really busy. A few tips make the ride easier for everyone.
Have the exact fare ready
The driver may refuse large notes. A cash ticket costs DKK 20.
Scan your card
Electronic scanning is required for all card types on every trip.
Move to the back
Move towards the back of the bus to make room for new passengers.
Bag off, scooter folded
Take off your bag and fold your scooter so there is room for more people.
Behind the yellow line
For your own safety, always stand behind the yellow line in the bus.
Think of other passengers
Show consideration for other passengers, for example by going easy on perfume and fabric softener.
Ask the driver

Equipment for transporting children
How we make room on the bus for prams, pushchairs, joggers and wheelchairs.
- Prams, pushchairs, running buggies and joggers used to carry children travel free as long as there is room.
- There can be at most two units on the bus at a time. A wheelchair or rollator, a pram or pushchair, and a jogger each count as one unit.
- The passenger who boarded first has priority (first come, first served).
- Safety comes first: all passengers must be able to move freely through the bus and get out through the rear door.
- The driver may refuse a pram if it would bother other passengers.
- The pram travels free, but the adult with it pays for their own ticket.
Conditions of carriage
The main points of the rules for travelling with Nuup Bussii.
