Children below school age and pupils at the public and independent schools (folkeskole and friskole) travel free if they live in Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq. Pupils in grades 8–10 need a personal school bus card and scan it on the bus. Free travel ends when the pupil completes compulsory schooling, even if they have not yet turned 16. Senior citizens living in Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq, including early-retirement and civil-service pensioners, travel free when they show their senior citizen bus card.
Senior citizens
Senior citizens living in Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq, including early-retirement and civil-service pensioners, travel free. Just show your senior citizen bus card.
The senior citizen bus card is made at our office, where we also take your photo. Bring your pension certificate from Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq or other proof that you are a pensioner and live in the municipality. The first card is free, and a replacement card costs DKK 50.
Free travel only applies to senior citizens who have been issued a senior citizen bus card. Pensioners from other municipalities pay for their bus travel.
Students
Since 1 January 2025, students have had 50% off the fare at Nuup Bussii when they show a valid student ID.
The discount applies to a cash ticket bought on the bus as well as to punch cards and monthly passes.
For punch cards and monthly passes, your bus card must first be registered with the student discount at the Nuup Bussii office before you can use the discount.
Former pupils who start an education and can show a valid student ID can get a personal bus card with their photo.
Types of ticket
Cash ticket
Tickets are bought on the bus and paid for in cash. They cannot be bought at our resellers, online or at our office.
A ticket is valid for 1 hour and is stamped with the time it expires when you buy it on the bus.
Single ticket on a bus card
You can buy a single ticket for your bus card online or at our resellers. It is valid for 1 hour after the card has been scanned on the bus.
If you have other products on your card, such as a punch card, tell the driver which one you want to use before you scan the card.
A single ticket can only be used by you. Unlike a punch card, it cannot be used to pay for others.
Punch card
A plastic card can be topped up with punch cards of 10 punches at a time.
A punch is valid for 1 hour. When you scan the card on the bus, you can see when it expires and how many punches you have left.
Several people travelling together can use the same punch card, with one punch for each person. Tell the driver before you scan.
Monthly pass
A plastic card can be topped up with a monthly pass. It is valid for 30 days, and you can see the expiry date when you scan the card on the bus.
A monthly pass is strictly personal and must be scanned or shown when you board. It gives unlimited travel on the city buses in Nuuk.
The monthly pass starts the first time you scan it. If you already have a valid monthly pass, the new one starts when the current one expires.
Keep your ticket or card during the journey, and show it when asked.

Plastic cards for punch cards can be bought at our resellers. They need no photo.
Plastic cards for monthly passes are only issued at our office, because they are printed with your photo and are personal.
We recommend that all our customers register their plastic card, so it can be blocked if it is lost.

The different cards
The yellow card
The yellow card can be used for a punch card, a monthly pass or a combination of both.
If you only use it as a punch card, it needs no photo.
If you use it as a monthly pass or a combination card, it must be personalised with your photo and name. We do this at our office.
If you lose your card, it can be replaced and its contents moved to the new card, but you need to know the 11 digits on the card (the card number).
The blue card
The blue card is the school bus card for pupils in grades 8, 9 and 10.
The blue card is personalised with a name and photo, and the cards are only made at our office.
The card is valid until the pupil completes compulsory schooling, and drivers do not take it from the pupil.
A punch card can be added to the blue card, online or at our resellers.

We have made it quick and easy to top up a punch card or a monthly pass online, whenever it suits you. You can also buy a single ticket for your plastic card online.
You cannot buy a new plastic card, a new punch card or a new monthly pass online.
Your bank may ask you to confirm the purchase, for example with a text message code or your banking app.
